Excellent piece, Scott. One among many wishes today is that the Congressional leadership would read and take to heart your message about the need for Congress to act. Sadly, I suspect that the only thing which will protect future generations of our nation is a constitutional amendment codifying restrictions on the office of the Presidency.
It’s no surprise that power is a pendulum. In the post-Watergate era, Congress asserted itself again and I suspect we might see that happen again at some point in the future.
I still have very clear memories of Senior Year Social Studies including a text entitled "The Imperial Presidency" by Arthur Schlesinger. That was 1979. The messages still ring loudly and clearly to me.

I had that in mind writing this. We made an effort to repeal when I was on the Hill in 2015 and leadership buried it. It really needs to be repealed.
